In 2017 University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity raised funds through appeal to create a colourful beach theme on the approach to the Children’s Emergency Department . The project was delivered by the Healing Arts Programme with support from Vinci Facilities.
- To create a welcoming approach to the Children’s Emergency Department reducing fear and anxiety for children.
- To allow visitors to clearly find and identify the department
- To enhance the quality of experience for patients and their families attending hospital
The Healing Arts Programme set out to source effective artwork and materials to convey a beach scene, further to consultation with service users. Through site survey key areas were identified to ensure longevity, keeping as much as possible out of reach and using durable materials to withstand vandalism and adverse weather.
Midlands based company MX Display were selected to create and install the final work, tensioned PVC was used to cover the brickwork area, and durable metal panels were powder-coated yellow with contrasting aluminium sea-shell shapes mounted to the face.
