Coventry Artist Peter McCarthy has given one of his largest works for exhibition at University Hospital in support of the Healing Arts Programme.
The work depicts classic pantomime characters drawn from different productions at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, evoking local memories of the annual Christmas visit. Characters such as Widow Twanky are shown in a very expressionistic style reflecting the high energy of a typical pantomime performance.
“The hospital is the perfect place for it as it’s visited by so many local people. I would expect the strong colouring and the energetic treatment to lift the mood and bring back pleasant childhood memories.” Peter McCarthy
Pantomime at the Belgrade is now in its new home on the top floor of the Clinical Sciences Building at University Hospital.
