Artist and Nurse Jo Bannister was selected by patients of the Arden Cancer Centre, to create nine bespoke pieces for display in the newly refurbished main reception. The works were kindly donated by Jo and depict her own battle with Breast Cancer.
“My personal experience during the different phases of treatment evoked an overwhelming visual catalogue of creative thoughts particularly whilst enduring chemotherapy. Whilst sitting having the treatment I was able to visualise an influx of colour and a cascade of shapes spiralling around my system which would appear in my dreams. I equate these visions to the powerful interplay of the chemo therapy drugs in their task of destroying cancer cells, whilst suffering the side effects that go with chemo treatment, it became my mechanism of coping and that one day I would be able to translate these images into actual paintings.”
